Begin with their rights First Steps is a free resource from Amnesty International UK, designed for teachers introducing human rights to early years learners. Its five lesson plans focus on the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights covering feelings, relationships and belonging, choices and voices, wellbeing and bodies. First Steps is intended to be a starting point to build children’s understanding and confidence in their own rights. It also aims to encourage self-expression and respect for other families and communities beyond their own. And the mix of activities – stories, games, music, art and photography – make it a fun and interactive way to engage children in discussion.
